The MCUAAAR MMC holds successful workshops. These workshops cover basic to advanced applications of structural equation modeling and issues in causal modeling of nonrandomized designs. MMC workshops are aimed at providing less experienced investigators with opportunities to expand their knowledge and understanding of methodologie utilized in conducting research on racial/ethnic health disparities in elderly African Americans.
Pilot Investigator Grant Funding Opportunity:
The Michigan Center for Urban African American Aging Research is one of six research centers on minority aging funded by the National Institute on Aging. This center is jointly housed at the University of Michigan (Program for Research on Black Americans) and Wayne State University (Institute of Gerontology).
One of the Center’s major goals is to identify and mentor investigators who are interested in conducting research on African American elders. Collaborative pilot projects that involve faculty from more than one department, school or institute are also encouraged to apply. For more information please contact Minti Henderson, UM at (734) 615-3629 or email her at minti@isr.umich.edu.

Michigan Center for Urban African American Aging Research (MCUAAAR)
Sponsored by University of Michigan and Wayne State University
The MCUAAAR Summer Training Workshop on African American Aging Research was held on June 1-3, 2009 at Wayne State University’s Institute of Gerontology. It was an excellent hands-on workshop which was taught by leading researchers of issues specific to minority aging. Participants who attended previous year’s session at the U-M were encouraged to attend is workshop, as different material was covered. Check back for more information on the 2010 workshop. For additional information on this workshop, please contact Carol Talbott at ctalbott@wayne.edu.
